| Kick the tobacco habit by calling Quit Line |
The new year is the perfect time to make a change, like quitting tobacco. Kicking the habit is never easy, but the WEA Trust’s tobacco cessation program gives you the tools to do it, on your terms.
First, call the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line, a tobacco counseling service available to Wisconsin residents at no cost. Counselors are available from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily when you call the Quit Line toll-free at (800) 784-8669 (QUIT-NOW). The Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line also offers coaching, discussion forums, and more at its Web site, WiQuitLine.org. For WEA Trust health plan members who live in other states, call the same number and you will be directed to the Quit Line for your state.
Receive free cessation aids
Second, talk to your health care provider about getting a prescription for a tobacco cessation aid. If you are a Trust health plan member age 18 or older, the Trust provides a three-month supply of free cessation aids once per year. The aids are distributed one month at a time, to be used consecutively. The aids available to you include the non-nicotine drug Bupropion, Chantix, the nicotine patch, gum, nasal spray, inhaler, or lozenge.
Include counseling for best results
Finally, research shows combining counseling and cessation aids will increase your odds of successfully quitting tobacco. Please plan to use the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line with your cessation aids for your best chance at kicking the habit for good.
And if you don’t succeed this time, try again. Research has shown that the majority of people who quit successfully have tried and failed one or more times before.
